Arbor Day 2007

Arbor Day was founded by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska in 1872.  National Arbor Day is celebrated each year on the last Friday in April, while each state has its own Arbor Day, for Arkansas it is the Third Monday in March.  But since early fall is a much better time to plant a tree, Mayor Mike Watson declared November 3 as Maumelle Arbor Day.  In honor of this declaration, Maumelle AARP Chapter #5359 planted a Red Oak in Lake Willastien Park.
